Variations of the Order
The order of the Passover service is contained in a haggadah—derived from a Jewish word, that means “to tell.” This printed order of service is used so that the “telling” of Passover’s meaning will not be left to chance. Many new traditions have been added over time, and as a result, there are now more than 1,000 different versions available. Despite these variations, every haggadah will contain the essentials: the four cups of the fruit of the vine and what they represent. Other items are placed on the Passover table also, but their explanations may vary slightly.
