Today’s Celebrations

The first Passover was celebrated standing up; the Jewish people had to be dressed and ready to leave Egypt at a moment’s notice. Today, the Passover is celebrated sitting or reclining at ease—signifying that our redemption has been completed, and we need only relax and enjoy it.

In preparation for the feast, all leaven (yeast) must be removed from the house. Leaven is often a symbol for sin and uncleanness. Scripture tells us, “Therefore, purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump; for indeed [Messiah], our Passover, was sacrificed for us” (1 Cor. 5:7).
