The Afikomen
The children now search for the hidden afikomen and the lucky winner is given a reward. The focus returns to the matzah tosh, whose three pockets, according to the rabbis, represent a unity. The unleavened bread has been part of the Passover for 3,500 years, but strangely, the tradition of the matzah tosh has existed for only about 2,000 years. Might this concept of unity have something to do with the one God?
THE BLESSING OF THE AFIKOMEN. Although the blessing is specifically for the afikomen, in reality, the prayer is a magnificent acknowledgment of God’s provision of food for the world—and His grace, kindness, and mercy in feeding all His creatures—man and animal. The prayer ends, “Blessed art Thou, O Lord, who givest food unto all.”
