Matzot and Maror
MATZOT (blessing of the unleavened bread). Holding the matzah tosh, “Papa” acknowledges God’s goodness in providing the bread, and offers a blessing. He then removes the remaining half matzah from the tosh, and breaks it into small pieces, distributing the pieces to those present. Each person dips their piece into the maror (horseradish representing bitter herbs).
THE MAROR. After “Papa” recites the blessing for the bitter herbs, everyone dips their matzah piece into the horseradish. As they eat, they are reminded of the sorrow, suffering, and tears of the Jewish people during their bondage in Egypt.
