The Third Cup and Elijah’s Place
THE THIRD CUP, “the cup of Redemption.” This cup represents God’s promise to redeem His people from slavery. It was this third cup that the Messiah raised in the Upper Room saying, “This is the New Covenant in my blood, which is shed for you.”
ELIJAH’S PLACE. At every Passover table, one place setting is reserved for the prophet Elijah representing the great anticipation with which the Jewish people await Elijah’s coming. So a chair is set for him, and the door to the room is left open. Scripture teaches that it is he who will herald the coming of the long-awaited Messiah. Yes, perhaps this will be the night that Elijah comes.
