Passover Begins
The Passover is not only a celebration, but a banquet. “Mama” and the daughters have worked hard to prepare the meal, and lay out the Passover table—including all the special items needed for the Seder. “Papa,” who has just returned from services at synagogue, dons his yarmulke and kittle (white tunic), and perhaps also his tallis (prayer shawl). The family is now ready to begin the Passover Seder.
“Mama” has both the duty and privilege of beginning the Seder. She lights two 10”-12” candles, reciting the blessing in Hebrew: “Blessed art Thou O Lord our God, King of the universe, who hast sanctified us by the commandments and has commanded us to kindle the festival light.”
